Aletha Thomas has called Kauai home for the past twelve years. Originally from Lake Oswego, Oregon, she graduated from Walla Walla College with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education and minors in English and Physical Education. After graduation, Aletha was offered and accepted a teaching position at Kahili Adventist School, located on Kauai's south shore. Over the eight years she served as Kahili's fifth and sixth grade teacher she was known for her innovative art education and her ability to effectively infuse core subjects with art methods and appreciation. While teaching at Kahili Adventist School, Aletha spent a number of her summer vacations working at local art galleries in Hanapepe and the Grand Hyatt Resort in Poipu. While consulting, she enjoyed learning about current local and international artists and sharing her knowledge with those visiting the galleries.
Aletha is enjoying her current position as the Visual Arts Teacher at Kapaa Middle School. She teaches grades six through eight design, sculpture, pottery, sketching, perspective, painting, watercolor, airbrush, printmaking and silk screening as well as many other methods and mediums.
When Aletha is not teaching she enjoys cooking with friends and spending time with her dog, Gidget and Stella the cat.
Aletha looks forward to sharing her love of the arts with more of Kauai's children through her MAC workshops.
